The SPDR S&P 500 ETF is an exchange traded fund that seeks to provide investment results that, before expenses, correspond generally to the price and yield performance of the S&P 500 Index, an index composed of diversified large cap and mid cap U.S. securities. SPDR is an acronym for the Standard & Poor's Depositary Receipts, and these ETFs are managed by State Street Global Advisors, which is part of State Street Corporation, a major wealth management firm headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. The ETF diversifies exposure to the U.S. equity market and is generally considered to be suitable for investors willing to take on a moderate level of risk. The index that the fund tracks include selected stocks from five hundred issuers, all of which are listed on national stock exchanges, and which come from more than 20 separate industry groups.
