Founded in 1958, Visa, Inc. is a leading global payments technology company, which facilitates digital payments between consumers, retailers, financial organisations, companies, strategic partners, and government institutions. It headquarters are located in San Fransisco, California, and the company operates worldwide. As of December 2021, Visa establishes digital payments in more than 200 countries and territories. In 2007, its regional businesses around the world merged to form Visa, Inc. Through VisaNet, a transaction processing network, the company enables the authorisation, clearing, and settlement of transactions. Visa also provides card products, platforms, and value-added services. One of the main aims of the company is to financially connect people and, by doing so, support smoother transactions across the global economy. As of December 2021, Visa has issued 3.6 billion Visa cards and processed 206 billion transactions in more than 70 million merchant locations in the world. Visa was envisioned when the Bank of America launched the first consumer credit card programme in the US. The company started operating internationally in 1974 and provides its services under the Visa, Visa Electron, Interlink, VPAY, and PLUS brands.
