Polygon is a protocol and framework built with the aim of building and connecting Ethereum-compatible blockchain networks. Previously known as the Matic System, the Polygon altcoin still uses the symbol MATIC. The system combines Ethereum and sovereign blockchains into a multi-chain system, to create decentralized apps. The platform was founded in 2017, and is based in Mumbai, India. The system, according to the company, was “built by developers, for developers”, and aims to address common blockchain pain points such as slow speeds and high fees, while maintaining high levels of security. The team behind MATIC aspire to create a world where blockchain gains mainstream adoption. They aim to focus on scaling the platform with an intense focus on user experience, increasing usability and convenience to make decentralized transactions quicker, simpler and cheaper. Various projects are currently using Polygon architecture, including online casino games, sports betting and prediction markets, as well as various RPG platforms.
