Decentraland

Decentraland (MANA) is an altcoin based on Ethereum. Decentraland itself is a virtual reality blockchain platform which aims to allow users to purchase, build and monetise virtual reality applications, incentivising a global network of users to build and operate a shared virtual world. It was created in 2015 by Ari Meilich and Esteban Ordano. MANA is Decentraland’s fungible ERC20 crypto token. A Decentraland Initial Coin Offering in 2017 raised 86,206 Ether (around $26 million). The Decentraland Foundation (owned by founders Meilich and Ordano) retains 20% of the initial token supply and holds the platform’s intellectual property rights. The MANA coin is used to purchase digital real estate, within the Decentraland platform, known as LAND. LAND is essentially a non-fungible digital asset maintained in an Ethereum smart contract.
