IOTA

Launched in 2016, MIOTA is the native cryptoasset of IOTA, a distributed ledger for the Internet of Things. Unlike other cryptoasset platforms, IOTA doesn’t use blockchain technology, wanting to bypass the major problems associated with it. They have developed an innovative, quantum-proof protocol, called the Tangle, in its place which allows for production of coins without the use of miners. The Tangle also introduces features such as zero fee transactions, secure data storage and transfers and options for scalability. MIOTA, stylised as mIOTA, was originally sold as a ‘utility token’ rather than a profit-sharing coin, and was used primarily for payment on the IOTA network, again helping to make this asset stand out from other cryptoassets. IOTA has a team based in 25 countries, and their maximum supply of over 2.7 billion tokens are all in circulation as of September 2021.
